How to Dress When you are Short and Curvy

Are you short and curvy and struggling with what to wear? Or do you fancy a bit of a change up to your usual wardrobe but not sure what else works with your frame? We have all the best style advice on how to dress when you are short and curvy and look amazing every time you step out the door.

When you are short and curvy, paying a little attention to what clothes you buy and how you dress, can have a dramatic impact on the overall appearance. Shirts, for example, could look too long when you are short or too bulky if you have a round tummy. By tucking them in you reduce the length and draw in the clothing at the waist to reduce the bulky look. It is altogether a much more attractive way to wear a shirt when you are short and curvy. If you like your top untucked, go for a singlet or vest with a fitted shape.

Another super simple, and super affordable tip is to wear a belt. Whether it is with a dress, blouse and jeans, or tee and shorts; a belt will elongate the two halves and draw your waist in. It is so simple you probably do not believe the impact it can have, but we encourage you to try it out. Stand in front of a mirror — or better still have a friend take a photo as your perspective will be of an onlooker — and add a belt to an outfit. See the before and after and see the impressive difference a belt can make.

Avoid clothing that is too long. This sounds like stupid advice as no-one buys clothes that are too big, but we commonly buy shirts with sleeves and ankles that bunch. We have picked up the right size, it fits everywhere else but is an inch or two too long at the cuffs — that's fine, right? Wrong! If you love that item too much to put it back, then turn up the ends. That way they do not make you look smaller than you are. Turned ends will also make you look slimmer so actually it is a win-win.

Don't be afraid to wear flats. Yes, heels are amazing at adding a few inches, but the fact is, you are short. Embrace it! Wear strappy sandals or ballerina shoes. Try to avoid anything strapped around your ankle. An exposed ankle creates a vase shape to your calf making them look shapely and slimming down to the foot.

Dresses are perfect for this body shape — as long as you shop for the ones that suit your best. We are not talking about massive sheets with no shape either. No, we want you to celebrate your curvaceous, petite frame with dresses that compliment it. Asymmetrical Dresses that have a shorter or irregular hem line give you length and the illusion of being taller than you are. For a little more wiggle room opt for fitted dresses that provide an attractive waist but keep the length, you really do not want to go much short then the knee. If you love to get your legs out, then we would suggest a bell skirt and bodysuit. The wide waistbands on bell skirt are great for your shape and the bell silhouette will make your legs longer and slimmer.
